Struggling with drugs or alcohol isn’t a moral failure—and it doesn’t mean you’re broken. Addiction is a serious issue, but it’s also something that can be treated. If you or someone you care about is dealing with substance use, getting help might feel overwhelming, even scary. But reaching out for professional support is one of the most important (and brave) steps you can take toward a better future.
Whether you’re worried about a friend or family member, trying to figure out if you need help yourself, or you’ve been asked to get treatment because of a court order, you’re not alone. At Zelus Recovery, we know how hard it can be to ask for help, and we’re here to make sure you feel supported every step of the way—without judgment. Our Boise drug rehab is here for you, whether you are a teen or an adult.
What happens during a substance use evaluation?
Before treatment officially begins, there’s an important first step called a substance use evaluation. Think of this as the starting point for your recovery journey. It’s a one-on-one process where you talk with a trained professional about your history, current situation, and any other factors that might affect your care.
Here’s what usually happens during the evaluation:
- A private intake interview to get to know you
- Questions about how often and how much you’ve been using
- A look at your family background and any past treatment
- A check for mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, or trauma
- A basic medical review (and sometimes a physical exam)
- A conversation about any unique needs or situations you’re dealing with
This info helps us understand what’s really going on and how we can best help you. Be honest—it’s a safe space. The more accurate your answers, the better we can tailor a plan that fits you. No two people are the same, so no two recovery paths are either.
What if you’re dealing with more than one issue?
It’s actually pretty common to be dealing with mental health challenges alongside substance use. Sometimes people use substances to cope with things like anxiety or depression. Other times, drug or alcohol use can lead to new mental health issues.
If this sounds familiar, you may need something called dual diagnosis treatment. This means we treat both the mental health side and the substance use at the same time. It’s a proven, more effective way to support long-term recovery.
What does treatment look like?
Once your evaluation is complete, we’ll work with you to build a treatment plan that fits your life. Zelus Recovery offers support for all kinds of substance use—whether it’s drugs, alcohol, or both.
Drug addiction treatment
We focus on understanding what’s behind the addiction and helping you build better coping tools. Everyone’s experience is different, but the goal is always to heal and move forward. You’ll learn strategies to deal with stress, triggers, and life without relying on substances.
Alcohol addiction treatment
In our alcohol programs, you’ll be in a safe space without the temptation to drink. You’ll be surrounded by people who understand what you’re going through—people who want to see you succeed. Our approach includes things like outdoor activities, creative outlets, and building habits that feel good and keep you grounded.
Dual diagnosis care
If you’re struggling with both mental health and substance use, you’ll get support for both at the same time. We don’t believe in treating just “part” of you. You’re a whole person, and that’s how we approach your care.
What happens after treatment?
Recovery doesn’t end when a program does—it’s a lifelong process. That’s why we offer aftercare support to help you stay strong even after you leave. This could include ongoing counseling, support groups, sober activities, or help from friends and family who are rooting for you.
Having a solid support system can make all the difference in avoiding relapse and staying on track.
